Saturday Slapstick for Children (and their adults!)

Book your tickets here

Part of the fifth Yorkshire Silent Film Festival

Join Laurel & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, and the anarchic Léontine as they spread chaos and laughter in this Saturday morning show for children of all ages (and their adults!)

Laurel & Hardy try to build a house, Charlie Chaplin makes a mess of moving a piano, and Léontine causes mayhem – plus a dancing pig and a strange band of disappearing street musicians…

Saturday Slapstick is a 50 minute show which brings live-scored silent film alive for children and adults alike, and includes opportunities to join in with making music and sound effects.

There will be cushions and bean bags at the front of the cinema, as well as traditional cinema seating. Baby changing facilities are available. The performance is most suitable for children five years old and over, but children and babies of all ages are welcome – and their tickets are free. We charge only for accompanying adults.

Where better to enjoy the fun of silent film comedy than one of Yorkshire’s silent era cinemas, the 1921 Hebden Bridge Picture House?

The Music

Live, improvised music will be played by Liz Hanks (cello) and Adam Fairhall (piano). Liz is particularly interested in folk and Indian classical music and she regularly performs and records with artists like Liam Gallagher, Jasdeep Singh Degun, and Richard Hawley. Adam Fairhall is a jazz pianist whose contemporary take on 1920s and 30s piano styles meshes beautifully with silent film.
