Film Club Presents Paris, Texas

Dir: Wim Wenders
Cast: Aurore Clément, Nastassja Kinski, Harry Stanton, Dean Stockwell, Hunter Carson
139 mins

Wim Wenders’ 1984 Cannes winner is the pinnacle of the filmmaker’s career, and stars Harry Dean Stanton as a drifter who wanders out of the
desert after disappearing for four years. Paris, Texas is the summation of Wenders’ fascination with the American West – its landscape and the people who populate it – and plays with the notion of myth, country and character.

A dishevelled man who wanders out of the desert, Travis Henderson (Harry Dean Stanton) seems to have no idea who he is. When a stranger manages to contact his brother, Walt (Dean Stockwell), Travis is awkwardly reunited with his sibling. Travis has been missing for years, and his presence unsettles Walt and his family, which also includes Travis’s own son, Hunter. Soon Travis must confront his wife, Jane, and try to put his life back together.

Want to know more about the Film Club?

The Hebden Bridge Film Club (HBFC) is an informal group of Picture House attendees formed in 2022. We stay in touch via Facebook and/or WhatsApp groups.

Are you new to the area or simply want to meet new people? There are lots of opportunities to be a part of HBFC; we occasionally meet up after a film to discuss it over a drink nearby and we also have monthly drinks for anyone that can make it.

All are welcome, particularly those who are alone and want to connect with like-minded people. Make sure to join the Film Club on Facebook (we are a very friendly bunch) and say hello!
