“A must watch, not just for the fashion industry, but for everyone who wears clothes.” – Jess Cartner-Morley, Associate Editor (Fashion), The Guardian

“Amy Powney is one of the most clued up designers on the subject of sustainable fashion that has ever set foot in Vogue House. The creative director of Mother of Pearl has been on a mission to convert her brand into one that’s able to call itself ethical and sustainable – and, unlike the numerous labels who have recently jumped on the eco bandwagon, actually mean it” VOGUE

Fashion designer Amy Powney of cult label Mother of Pearl was raised off-the-grid in rural England by activist parents, Amy always felt uneasy about the devastating environmental impact of her industry. When she wins the coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year, Amy decides to use the prize money to create a sustainable collection from field to finished garment. Fashion Reimagined explores Powney’s journey from outsider in the fashion world to industry leader as she examines the complexities and waste of the global supply chain, whilst her own personal revolution becomes the precursor of a much bigger societal change.

Join Julia Roebuck (founder of Upcycle Fashion) after the film as she chats with Jay Rutovitz of Hebden Bridge Film Festival about finding solutions to fast fashion, sustainable textiles, how and why she creates new garments from unwanted textiles, and the joy of re-use.

Open Space 70 is an environmental arts project & festival, made by and for the people of Calderdale. Between March and July community groups, individuals, environmental experts, professional artists, and first-time makers will work together to create art for Open Space 70 across all genres, through attendance at workshops, courses, as part of project groups and through independent creativity.

From Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 July enjoy a celebration of 70 exhibitions and installations, happenings, performances, workshops, talks and walks at spaces in and around Hebden Bridge, including a weekend Arts Trail and a free programme of family friendly events.
