Fright Night: Queer Reflections on Horror - The Birds with Q&A

Dir: Alfred Hitchcock
Cast: Suzanne Pleshette, Jessica Tandy, Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor

Join us for a very special FRIGHT NIGHT for Pride month, as we present a screening of the much-loved Hitchcock classic THE BIRDS, followed by a Q+A with essayist, critic and IT CAME FROM THE CLOSET contributor Laura Maw.

Tippi Hedren, Jessica Tandy and Rod Taylor star in Hitchcock’s iconic interpretation of Daphne du Maurier’s story of unprovoked violent attacks by crows and gulls on the residents of a small California town.

The relationship between horror films and the LGBTQ+ community is complicated. Exploring a multitude of queer experiences from first kisses and coming out to transition and parenthood, It Came From the Closet is a varied and accessible book that leans into the fun of horror while taking its cultural impact and reciprocal relationship to the LGBTQ+ community seriously. Laura Maw wrote about The Birds for the anthology and will be talking about queer x horror themes and signing books after the screening.
