Broken Bird marks the feature directorial debut of local filmmaker, Joanne Mitchell. The film is an adaptation of her and Tracey Sheals award winning short film, Sybil. Broken Bird was the opening movie of London’s prestigious Frightfest Film Festival, and has since received rave reviews – at present it’s 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The story follows Sybil Chamberlain – poet, taxidermist and mortician – who, having suffered the tragic loss of her family as a young child, is on a quest for love, belonging and to rebuild her perfect family.

However, reality and reason are progressively slipping away from Sybil and her increasingly ‘dark desires’ are becoming more and more insatiable.

The Guardian, in a 4 star review said, ‘the film patrols a careful tonal line that operates in the waiting room between psychological thriller and true horror.’
