Access and Accessibility
The Picture House strives to provide accessibility to all customers, regardless of ability.
For the hearing impaired we have headsets that offer audio amplification. In addition, captioned or subtitled screenings for the hearing impaired feature full English language subtitles and are shown at a frequency of at least one screening per week. The genre of film and the screening time and day of the week when films are screened with subtitles are rotated to try to be as inclusive as possible. Descriptive subtitling / captioned screenings feature subtitles for speech and provide subtitles for other significant sounds for example when a phone rings, a door slams or when music is playing. Please refer to the list below for upcoming subtitled screenings. These screenings are also shown with ‘S/T’ after the film’s certificate in the programme and ‘CC’ after the screening time on the film’s webpage.
For the visually impaired, we offer audio description via a headset, on selected films. Please refer to the list of audio descrived films below. Ask at the Box Office as you buy your ticket to borrow a headset. Audio Described film titles are also shown with ‘A/D’ after the film’s certificate in the programme (which can be downloaded from the website homepage) and AD after the screening time on the film’s webpage.
For more information and listings please visit our Audio Description and Subtitled Screenings page
Easy wheelchair / level access is provided down a gentle ramp on the right hand (park) side of the building. Please use the RADAR facility to alert staff of your arrival, and wait 1-2 minutes whilst someone comes to let you in. You will need a RADAR key to sound the alert to staff (see www.disabilityrightsuk.org for information about the RADAR key scheme and to purchase a key).
There are ten designated wheelchair spaces in the auditorium – four within the seating in the stalls on the raked floor (wedges for wheelchair wheels are available on request) and six at the rear of the stalls seating on level floor. You are welcome to reserve a wheelchair space and adjacent seat – please email firstname.lastname@example.org at least 48 hours before the screening or ring 01422 842807 during cinema opening hours.
We have one accessible parking space to the park side of our building which is available on a first come first served basis for customers who are blue badge holders (please display this at all times and limit parking to the duration of your visit to the cinema). Please do not park on the double yellow lines as access around the building is needed at all times.
An accessible toilet is located in the foyer. We are aware that not all disabilities are visible and we will never question those choosing to use the accessible toilet. The toilet is now Stoma friendly.
We offer occasional (currently bi-monthly) autism friendly (relaxed) screenings usually early afternoons and with family audiences in mind. For more information visit our Autism page
We offer monthly parent and baby screenings with the lights turned up a little and the sound down a notch in order to create a stress-free environment exclusively for parents / guardians to enjoy films with their babies (aged under 12 months). Details are here
Cinema Exhibitors Association (CEA) Card
