Reuniting with acclaimed actor Fares Fares, Tarik Saleh’s latest film, Eagles of the Republic, is at once a clever political satire and a sobering cautionary tale of how the creeping spread of totalitarianism slowly takes over a nation’s psyche.
Fares plays Egypt’s most famed and adored leading man, George Fahmy, a man who has come to enjoy the finer things in life – all the luxuries his large salary has afforded him over the years. But when he’s approached by the country’s highest authorities to star in a propaganda film about the president’s rise to power, the life he knows is threatened if he refuses their call. Drawn into a spider’s web of lies, spies and deception of the inner circle of power, George finds himself unable to escape the spindly snare of tyranny in all its forms.
In a clever interplay of comedy and tragedy, Saleh unpacks how culture and creativity are manipulated by sinister forces determined to remain in power at all costs.
Children & Families
We offer plenty of opportunities for families to enjoy the cinema together, with weekend matinees, extra weekday screenings during the school holidays, and £6 tickets for young people aged 3–15.
We also aim to hold at least one relaxed screening every month, with slightly brighter lighting and lower volume, creating a more welcoming environment for neurodiverse children, families and friends.
You can also look out for our occasional £2 family tickets for much-loved family classics returning to the big screen.
Parent & Baby Screenings
Enjoy a cinema trip with your little one at our relaxed Parent & Baby screenings.
These special screenings are designed for parents, guardians and carers with babies under 12 months, giving you a chance to enjoy a film in a comfortable and baby-friendly environment. Tickets are offered at an off-peak price, babies go free, and there is no need to worry about baby noise during the film.
Who can attend?
Parent & Baby screenings are for adults attending with a baby under 12 months.
Adults must be accompanied by a baby under 12 months to attend.
Tickets
Babies go free and do not need a ticket. They can sit on your lap during the screening.
When do they take place?
We usually hold one Parent & Baby screening each month, typically on a Tuesday morning.

What films do you show?
Films shown at Parent & Baby screenings will be rated U, PG or 12A.
We are unable to screen films rated 15 or 18 at these screenings.
Subtitles
Where available, we will show the film with subtitles. If a subtitled version is not supplied, the screening will still go ahead without them.
Prams, baby changing and access
Baby changing facilities are available in the accessible toilet in the foyer.
There is plenty of leg room for car seats and bags.
Level access for prams and pushchairs is via the emergency door on the right-hand side of the cinema.
Pushchairs can be stored at the back of the auditorium during the film, but please do not leave them in aisles or exit routes.

Elevenses
Are you an early bird? Elevenses is a relaxed late-morning screening at a calmer time of day, with a few little extras.
For £9, your ticket includes a free tea or coffee and biscuits, so you can arrive, get comfortable, and enjoy the full cinema experience without the evening rush. Everyone is welcome, and it is a great option if you prefer daytime plans.

Calling all horror fans and thrill-seekers. Fright Night is our monthly horror strand at Hebden Bridge Picture House, celebrating classic and cult horror on the big screen.
From legendary titles and hidden gems to fan favourites best experienced in a cinema, Fright Night is all about the thrill of watching horror in a venue that already has plenty of atmosphere. In a cinema that is more than 100 years old, every creak and shadow adds to the experience.
We also like to make each Fright Night feel like an event, with occasional extras, themed touches and a few surprises along the way. From dress-up moments to added fun before the film, you can expect the Picture House at its beautifully spooky best.

Our Autism-Friendly screenings offer a more relaxed cinema environment for neurodivergent guests and anyone who may find standard screenings challenging.
Lights are kept slightly raised, volume is lowered, and there are no trailers or adverts. Guests are welcome to move around, make noise, and leave and return as needed.

Our FREE Dementia-Friendly Screenings, funded by Hebden Royd Town Council, take place on the third Monday of every month.
These relaxed, community-led screenings are open to all, with a special focus on people living with dementia, their families and carers. With no adverts or trailers, low lighting, adjusted sound, and freedom to talk, sing or move around, we aim to create a warm and welcoming cinema experience.
Free tea, coffee and biscuits are served for half an hour before the film to give guests time to meet, socialise and settle in.
