John Huston’s elegiac anti-western The Misfits, Marilyn Monroe’s final film, is back on the big screen to mark the centenary of Monroe’s birth.
Written by Arthur Miller, The Misfits is a touching and off-beat drama of broken-hearted cowboys and broken-down marriages, co-starring Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift as an aging cowboy and a rodeo-rocked bull rider, both with bittersweet memories of a west that’s no longer wild.
Infused with the promises of what could have been if she had been given more time to explore her skills as a dramatic performer, Marilyn Monroe delivers one of her very best performances.
Our FREE Dementia-Friendly Screenings, kindly funded by Hebden Royd Town Council, take place on the third Monday of every month.
These community-led screenings are open to everyone, with a special welcome for people living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers. They are designed to offer a relaxed, friendly and inclusive cinema experience where people can come together, enjoy a film, and feel comfortable in the space.
We aim to show classic and feel-good films that can be enjoyed by a wide audience, creating a shared experience in a warm and welcoming setting.
To help make screenings more accessible and enjoyable, we make a number of adjustments to the usual cinema environment. There are no adverts or trailers, so the film starts promptly at the advertised time of 1pm. The lights are kept on low, the sound is adjusted to suit the audience, and guests are welcome to talk, sing and move around during the screening. We also provide accessible signage to help people feel at ease in the building.
Before the film, we serve free tea, coffee and biscuits for half an hour, giving guests the chance to meet and socialise with others, enjoy a hot drink, and get familiar with the cinema space before the screening begins.
