This critically acclaimed political drama was written, co-produced and directed by Mohammad Rasoulof. It centres on Iman, an investigating judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, who grapples with paranoia due to the nationwide political protests as a result of the death of a young woman. The fictional narrative is combined with real images of recent protests in Iran that have been suppressed by the authorities.
The Seed of the Sacred Fig was nominated for the Palme d’Or last year at Cannes, winning the Special Jury Prize, and has been nominated as Germany’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.
Iman (Missagh Zareh) is an investigator working for the government, but the promise of a promotion and a better life for his family comes with unexpected complications when his gun goes missing.
