Parent and Baby: Aftersun
Writer-director Charlotte Wells’ feature debut stars Paul Mescal (Normal People) and newcomer Frankie Corio, in the story of a woman who reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father 20 years earlier.
At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum. Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship.
A deeply personal and autobiographical meditation on memory that draws from the director’s experiences with her own father, Aftersun is an assured and tender debut feature. With widespread critical acclaim, the film positions Charlotte Wells as one of Britain’s most exciting new filmmaking talents.
