Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Persepolis is the autobiographical tale of Marjane, sharing her experiences as a young girl coming-of-age in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of this precocious and outspoken nine year old that we see a peoples’ hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power – forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Set in late 18th century France, painter Marianne is commissioned by an affluent countess to paint the wedding portrait of her sheltered but headstrong daughter Héloïse (Adèle Haenel), in the hope it will find her a wealthy husband. A heartbreaking period piece told with a distinctly modern feminist energy.
Short film Quietly Beneath by Sian Hutchings (part of Artists in the Cinema 2020) will screen before Portrait of a Lady on Fire, coming at the end of the pre-feature programme.
