Assistance Dogs

We welcome all assistance dogs and service animals in the cinema. If your animal needs anything specific during your visit, please let a member of staff know.

Strobe Lighting

Some films and live arts shows may contain flashing imagery and strobing. If this is the case, information will be provided in advance on our website.

Cinema Exhibitors’ Association (CEA) Card

We offer a free companion ticket for CEA Card holders as part of this national scheme, which supports disabled guests visiting the cinema.

You can book your tickets online or in person at the box office.

Booking online

Once you have selected your seats, add them to your order then enter your unique CEA Card number in the CEA Voucher field. The companion ticket discount will then be applied before checkout.

We always recommend booking in advance to help ensure you can choose the seats that best meet your needs.

You can find out more about the scheme and apply for a card at ceacard.co.uk.

Building Accessibility

Step-free access

Step-free access is available via the gentle ramp on the park side of the building.

When you arrive, please use the RADAR key alert system to let our team know you are here, then allow 1–2 minutes for a member of staff to come and assist you. You will need a RADAR key to use this system.

Wheelchair spaces

There are eight wheelchair spaces in the auditorium:

  • four within the stalls seating on the raked floor
  • four at the rear of the stalls on level flooring

These spaces, along with adjacent companion seats, can be booked online or in person during Box Office opening hours. They are shown in blue on the Stalls seating plan. Wedges for wheelchair wheels are also available on request.

Accessible toilet

A spacious, gender-neutral accessible toilet is located in the foyer. This toilet is also stoma friendly and includes baby changing facilities.

Accessible parking

There is one accessible parking space on the park side of the building for Blue Badge holders, available on a first come, first served basis. Please display your Blue Badge clearly and only park for the duration of your visit to the cinema.

Please do not park on the double yellow lines, as access around the building needs to remain clear at all times.

Additional on-street parking is often available in town during the evening. The nearest car parks are:

- St Pol car park, Bridge Gate

- Garden Street car park

Accessible Showings

Captioned Screenings (CC)

We want everyone to feel welcome at Hebden Bridge Picture House, and our Captioned Screenings are one of the ways we support guests who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing.

These screenings feature full descriptive subtitles, including all spoken dialogue and important sound details such as music and sound effects. This extra information helps make the story and atmosphere of the film easier to follow.

Not all films are available as Captioned Screenings, as this depends on whether the film distributor supplies captioning.

All captions are provided in English.

Look for the ‘CC’ or ‘Captioned Screening’ label across our website and printed programmes to find these screenings.

Audio Description (AD)

We want our cinema to be welcoming and accessible to everyone, including guests who are blind or visually impaired.

Audio Description provides a spoken commentary of important visual details, such as actions, expressions and scene changes, during pauses in dialogue. This allows more of the story to be experienced through sound.

This commentary is available through a headset rather than the cinema’s main speakers, and customers can borrow a headset from us for the screening.

If you prefer, you can bring your own headphones to use with our headsets, which have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. We recommend bringing your own headphones for comfort and convenience.

Audio Description is not available for every film, as it depends on whether the distributor supplies an AD track. When it is available, screenings will be identified by the ‘AD’ label in our digital and printed programmes.

For guests who are hard of hearing, these headsets can also be used to amplify the film’s standard audio track.

Autism-Friendly / Relaxed Screenings

Our Autism-Friendly screenings offer a calm, flexible and supportive cinema experience for neurodivergent audiences and anyone who may feel more comfortable in a relaxed environment.

At these screenings, the lights are kept slightly up and the volume is slightly reduced. There are no adverts or trailers, and the film starts at the advertised time. Doors open 30 minutes beforehand to give guests time to get settled.

We know that everyone experiences the cinema differently, so these screenings are designed to be informal and low-pressure. You are welcome to move around, make noise, talk, or leave and return whenever you need to.

These screenings are designed with autistic guests in mind, but they are open to everyone.

Warm Space / Dementia Friendly Screenings

Our FREE Dementia-Friendly Screenings, kindly funded by Hebden Royd Town Council, take place on the third Monday of every month.

These community-led screenings are open to everyone, with a special welcome for people living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers. They are designed to offer a relaxed, friendly and inclusive cinema experience where people can come together, enjoy a film, and feel comfortable in the space.

We aim to show classic and feel-good films that can be enjoyed by a wide audience, creating a shared experience in a warm and welcoming setting.

To help make screenings more accessible and enjoyable, we make a number of adjustments to the usual cinema environment. There are no adverts or trailers, so the film starts promptly at the advertised time of 1pm. The lights are kept on low, the sound is adjusted to suit the audience, and guests are welcome to talk, sing and move around during the screening. We also provide accessible signage to help people feel at ease in the building.

Before the film, we serve free tea, coffee and biscuits for half an hour, giving guests the chance to meet and socialise with others, enjoy a hot drink, and get familiar with the cinema space before the screening begins.
